Clogher Valley Sure Start offers a wide range of services and support to empower parents and carers. We do this through giving you the tools and knowledge to support your child’s Speech and Language skills at home.

Should your child require additional support early identification is key and our SLT and SLTA have a range of services to assist your child in their communication development.

SLT Clinic

For children from 18 months up to 4 years

This clinic runs on a monthly basis. Parents can book an appointment for their child to have their speech and language skills assessed by the Speech and Language Therapist. Parents receive advice and information at the clinic and can also be signposted to other services as needed.

Play Talk Bags

For children from 18 months to 4 years

This is a home based 6 week programme that aims to develop children’s speech, language and communication skills. The Speech and Language Therapy Assistant works alongside the parent and their child and introduces new play ideas and vocabulary in each session. The Play Talk Bag programme aims to support children in learning and using new words in a relaxed, motivating and fun way.

hanen

Is suitable for parents of children aged 1 to 4 years. The group runs over 9 weeks with crèche provided. This is a bespoke programme from The Hanen Centre, Toronto. It aims to support parents in gaining an understanding of the types of interactions that help children feel good about themselves and open them up to learning new things. The techniques learned each week aim to help parents learn more about their child and how to foster and enrich their child’s communication and learning during everyday activities and conversations.

Singing Toddlers

Is suitable for children who have started walking to 2 1/2 years

The group runs over 4 weeks. The programme aims to promote children’s attention and listening skills and also to build on their language skills. Each week children’s confidence in communicating and taking part in music, rhyme and movement is supported and enhanced.

Makaton

(Parents & Babies 18mths - 4yrs) A 6-week programme to learn 100 signs you can use when talking to your baby and when singing songs and rhymes.

Make Chatter Matter

Annual Event to celebrate children’s communication and receive speech and language tips. This event contributes to increasing parents awareness of speech, language and communication in their children.

Tips for Talking

This is a 4 week programme for parents with Creche provided. It aims to support parents whose children are late to talk. Practical strategies are introduced each week by the Speech and Language Therapist to help parents support their children in learning language. Strategies are learned together step-by-step in an interactive and relaxed way.

Swim Time Baby For Babies birth to 1year

4-week programme for parents and babies aiming to enhance babies speech, language and communication development through song. This programme will also help develop confidence in the water with the use of a variety of props and games.
